Reflection

 

Champneys 3rd November

Champneys was an educational visit paid for as part of the university course. During our time at Champneys all students received a treatment and experienced all the facilities had to offer. It was our chance to be able to see a famous health spa and what they had to offer. This also helped with my marketing module as I chose to analyse champneys and recommend a new marketing plan for the business. Champneys offer thalassotherapy and although I didn't get chance to experience this I thoroughly enjoyed my time here, it allowed me to experience a different spa and a different typology. My favourite part about champneys was experiencing their range of spa cuisine.

Spa Conference 11th November

The Spa and wellness conference is hosted at Buxton, and gives the students a chance to listen to a variety of professional people from different areas of the spa and wellness industry. This is a great chance for us to get an insight into the industry from people with first-hand experience, throughout the day there are various workshops for us to attend. I feel that is this is a great way to see what is new in the industry and a chance to network with other professionals.

 

Industry Day 11th February

Industry day is when a large variety of employers come to the university to show the students a variety of options from when they graduate. I spoke with lecturer who had a stand at the university who runs the teacher training course, speaking to him helped me to understand my best options after university, due to missed options of whether to continue onto my third year Bsc or whether to go onto a teacher training course after my Fdsc.

Shift Manager - On going

After first semester I spoke with my course coordinator to talk about finishing university, I asked whether it was possible to be placed on a shift with first years so I could be shift manager and gain some management  experience before finishing my final year. I was placed onto the Tuesday afternoon shift, where I manage a small team of therapists, allocating them lunches and treatments and overlooking the running of the spa to ensure it is running smoothly, being shift manager has given me great confidence in potentially leading a team and also helped to develop my team leading skills, it has also helped give me confidence and contributed to the development of my commercial awareness.
